Truma 3002 at very low temperature
« : 03.09.2007, 00:59:55 »
Hi to all!

This winter we want go in a place with very low temperature (-20, -30°C).

In my Hymer Eriba Nova I have Trumatic 3002 with Trumavent, I have not the Truma Airmix and I have not ultraheat (electrical resistor).

I can going placidly or is better takes some caution?
You can give to me some advice for the low temperature?

In Italy generally we not go under 0°C, max -5°C in the night, and 5°C, max 0°C in the day...!

The Eriba Nova is a good caravan for the low temperature, or not?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm sorry that my expierience with Trumatic was from 80´s but at first You must change the Propane gas - I think that normally gas in central and southern europe is butane and you can not use it in minus degrees. Propane gas boiling point is about -42

If I translate shortly in finnish, there might be better answers :D

Sberla tahtoisi vaunuilla tulevana kautena kylmässä (-20, -30°C).
Vaunussa on trumatic 3002 trumavent puhaltimella, ilman airmixiä ja ilman ultraheat sähkölämmitystä.

Voiko olla huoleton
Antakaa ohjeita kylmien ilmojen varalle
Onko Eriba Nova hyvä vaunu kylmässä vai ei?

Thanks for your answer.

In north Italy use only Propan gas, is not easy to find butane gas.  :)

Thanks!

Hi!
In low temperature you have to be carefully with water in caravan, because in those pipelines water can freese.
Inside temperature on the floor and near the wall are about 10 degrees lower than in in the middle of the caravan.
The gass bottle (11kg) gives energy to trumatic about 30h-40h, so be sure you have an extra bottle of gass.
Hymer is not the best, but go to lower temperatures step by step, so you notice how low you can go.
I have Hobby with trumatic and I use it day temperature -15 and night -20.

"Ozzy66" and "raaka" had good points there.

Also should keep in mind that fresh water pipes are no the only places that can be freezed. When/If you empty fresh water systen, be shure that _all_ parts of the water system are assuredly emptyed: Pipes, boiler, faucets etc.

With faucets, remember to leave those open also after the system unload. If faucets are type with removable inner parts, also remember to remove faucet's inner parts, because those are build "hermetic" and only a drip of water can broke those if they freeze.

Also, think before how you are going to use used water (so called "gray water"). How to collect it and so on.

"True" all season systems are with water circulation system (Alde & Primus), but many with Trumatic have been used their caravans and motorhomes also in winter in here northern and can live with it.

As said, propane will work till -42, but it might not be useble under -30. Butane gas will boil in -0 and it is not useble as "winter gas". That's why we have here in Finland only propane for caravans...and barbeque grills =)

Good times with your caravan, also in winter.

Hi, and thanks for your info.

My caravan have the connecting tube for the grey water under the floor, in the external.
I think that it is not a good system for the low temperature.

The fridge snorkel can be remain open, or is better closer it partially?

An other info: my friend have a Burstner Belcanto 410 with Trumatic 3002 (like mine). You know? in hard winter condition is a good caravan?

Thanks,

Regards,
Sberla.

Hi Sberla. I´m sorry my Italian is very bad. But I´ll remember a good time in Chioccia, near Venice, when we was in there, for a long time. It was  year 1975. It was a fantastic time.  There was two familys, who teach us to Italian culture.
I´m so sorry, but I´ve forgot the English, because I´m not use it many years. But I hope, you understand  what try to tell to you.
Greetings from Finland.

Couple ideas for Sberla: In winter time I connected a wash basin outlet in toilet to a canister in toilet and put waste water only toilet sink.
Fresh water we used in winter time only from a canister (not the waste water canister :=) )
